I definitely believe that reading the bible is one of our necessity when it comes to knowing our Lord more. but unfortunately most of us cannot be that faithful in reading his word. Why? here are some reason I found:
1." some words are difficult to understand"
2. "I don't like reading"
3. "I'm having a hard time looking for verses"
4." i'm too busy for that.."
5. "it is the responsibility of our church to teach us that"
6. "I don't own a bible"
Solutions that I suggest:
1." some words are difficult to understand"
-Yes, most of the words written in the bible are difficult to understand but there are things that we can personally do to make it easier for us to understand.
First, choose your bible translation ( Click HERE). If you choose, "King James Version", definitely it will be VERY difficult for you to understand. The word with "thy, thee, words with -th" are not commonly used today. Personally I prefer to use New International Version (NIV) and Good News Translation (GNT).
Second, Pray before reading. We may have different interpretations in reading the bible. Most of the time, our interpretations are covered by our emotions or with the things that is currently happening to our lives. Let us seek first God's help so that we can have a better understanding on what is written.
Third, we may ask help from other people who knows better. For example, Church leaders, Life coaches, and even a family members who got a better knowledge than us.
2. "I don't like reading"
- Personally, I don't like reading that much. I prefer to hearing things than reading but there is something that I have realized , reading is much likely "to see is to believe". We can't just say " it is written" if we didn't personally saw that "it is written". Reading is part of our daily routine, when walking the street you read. when buying on the groceries, you read and even when you're watching TV, you read. Can't you just spend a little time to dedicate even 60 seconds of your everyday life reading short verses from the bible? Yes you can. And when you start to dedicate your 60 seconds, trust me it won't be enough. You will crave for more ;) and from that, you will see that you're starting to like reading.
3. "I'm having a hard time looking for verses"
Me too. Before I was also having a hard time to know which books are from old or new testament. But don't worry my friend, I have found the solution. ^_^
Here are some tips to easily find the verses you want to read. This songs personally help to look for different verses faster and easier!
OLD TESTAMENT
NEW TESTAMENT:
Remember the 60 seconds? just try. You won't lose anything for 60 seconds. Actually, you will gain a lot and you will be able to build a greater relationship with God. We all have 24 hours a day and it depends on us how we will use it. USE IT WISELY.
5. "it is the responsibility of our church to teach us that"
Yes it is, it is like school. The Church leaders teaches us everything but it is our responsibility to learn. Just like in the classroom, we listen to our teachers and the teacher tries their best to teach us everything BUT ONE HOUR of teaching is not enough. We have to do our part and study on our own. One of our pastor said " If only salvation can be inherited, then it is okay to always JUST listen but the truth is, it is NOT and CANNOT be inherited unless you build your own relationship with God and accept Jesus as your savior".
6. "I don't own a bible and i don't have money to buy one"
If LAZINESS attacks you AGAIN, Just remember this:
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8 NIV)
Let us be all PROSPEROUS and SUCCESSFUL. In Jesus name!
